Always an outspoken advocate for the environment His Holiness the Karmapa has recently launched a new website dedicated to his efforts to spread the message about environmental responsibility and protection.
The website, named Khoryug (Tibetan for environment) is a network of Buddhist monasteries and centers in the Himalayas working together on environmental protection of the Himalayan region with the aim of practically applying the values of compassion and interdependence towards the Earth and all living beings that dwell here.
As Buddhist practitioners, we believe that our actions must flow from our aspiration to benefit all sentient beings and safeguard our mother Earth and that this positive change in our societies must begin with ourselves first.
KHORYUG aims to develop a partnership with community based organizations and NGOs wherever there is a member monastery or center so that together with our communities, we can help and protect all life on Earth now and for the future.
His Holiness was a major contributor to our recent book, A Buddhist Response to the Climate Emergency.
I am yet to read the book, but like the grassroot vision of Khoryug. Buddhists also need a collective response to the man-made economic situation, which is driving the wheel of social disintegration and environmental decay.
Such an effort is underway outside the mainstream buddhist radar. Search for Deep conscious capitalism.
I am so glad that I discovered your blog H.H. Karmapa Launches a New Website on Environmental Protection Go beyond words: Wisdom Publications’ Buddhist Blog, while surfing the net. Beneficial contribution. Looks good to me. This is very up-to-date web blog. I think I will share it on Facebook. Thanks !
